På et kursted ved Adriaterhavet i det krigshærgede Jugoslavien har familien fundet frem til en healer, der med behandlinger kan give Rick et normalt liv uden den snærende dragt. En ekstrem sjælden hudsygdom gør Rick til hyper-allergisk overfor sollys. Hver eneste tomme af hans hud er dækket af en tætomsluttende læderdragt. Desværre varer kuren kun tre døgn. Rick har tre døgn til at opleve alt det, vi andre har et helt liv til. Han møder en ung kvinde - og forelsker sig vildt. Og de heftige følelser er gensidige. Begge håber de inderligt på et mirakel, som aldrig kommer. De tre døgn er ved at være slut, og Rick må tage en tung beslutning. Kan han klare at vende tilbage til læderdragtens skyggetilværelse.
